Scholars from various Islamic sects have resorted to different arguments to prove their beliefs in this regard. Shiite scholars, however, are of the view that the Quran which is common to all sects and denominations and the most authoritative source, has stated certain facts in a general but firm way. Therefore, Allah, the Exalted, revealed verses concerning the succession to the Prophet (S) after his demise. In this respect, we can give the example of verses such as the verses of Wilayah, tabligh (delivering the message), perfection of religion, malediction (mubahalah), purification, seven proofs, chapter al-Ma’arij and other verses. According to Shiite sources and some of the most important Sunni sources, the aforesaid verses were revealed about Imam Ali, peace be upon him. The present article seeks to comparatively study and critically assess the most important verses concerning the guardianship of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (AS). مسئله جانشینی پیامبر اکرم’ از مهم‌ترین مباحث اعتقادی- کلامی در بین مسلمانان از همان آغاز بوده است. اندیشمندان مذاهب برای اثبات عقاید خود به ادله‌ای استناد جسته‌اند. در این میان، اندیشمندان شیعی براین باورند که قرآن به عنوان نقطۀ عطف اشتراک فریقین و تمییز حق از باطل مطالبی را به صورت کلی اما محکم بیان فرموده است. بر این اساس، خداوند پیرامون جانشینی پس از پیامبر اکرم’ آیاتی نازل فرموده است. در این باره می‌توان به آیات ولایت، تبلیغ، اکمال دین، مباهله، تطهیر، بینه، یک و آیات دیگر اشاره کرد. شأن نزول آیات مذکور در منابع شیعه و برخی از مهم‌ترین منابع اهل سنت در شأن ولایت امام علی× بیان شده است. جستار پیشرو مهم‌ترین آیات ولایت را بررسی تطبیقی می‌کند و دیدگاه مخالفان را طرح و نقد می‌نماید.
