Abstract
The books Mawahi al-Rahman fi Tafsir al-Qur'an is an invaluable commentary work by Sayyid Abdul A'alaa Musavi Sabzewari of which twelve out of sixty volumes have been printed and published. Amongst the themes discussed by the commentator in this book are the historical aspects of the verses as well as the significations of the Quranic stories. On the other hand, Sayyid Qutb's highly valuable commentary work titled Fi Dhelal al-Qur'an, is also one of the commentary works featuring a literary and educational approach. It deals with the Quranic stories at length.
The present article aims to study Sayyid Abdul A'laa Musavi Sabzewari's purpose behind mentioning and elaborating on the stories of the Quran. In this connection, first a short definition of 'story' and its basic elements have been defined whereupon the differences between story in the Quran and Quranic stories and historical stories have been mentioned in accord with the views of Ayatollah Sabzewari, Sayyid Qutb, Allamah Tabatabai and some other exegetes and historians. Finally, the Quranic stories and their goals have been studied from the perspectives of Ayatollah Sabzewari and Sayyid Qutb with a conclusions drawn out thereafter.
The value-based and religious approach of these two exegetes towards the Quranic stories, a meta –seasonal and geographical view towards historical incidents, the guidance-oriented feature of the stories of the Quran from the view point of both exegetes, the recurrent feature of the stories of the Quran etc. are amongst the most important results studied and substantiated in this regard
