According to Farabi, a utopian society is materialistically and spiritually the best place for attaining perfection and prosperity. This proposed model is not restricted to a specific geography; rather it can encompass the entire world under the leadership of a wise man who may be either the Prophet or an Imam. This is a clear reference to the global government of Hazrat Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance. Farabi likens a utopian society to a perfect body having organs and limbs. As the heart plays a key role in a body, the head of a utopian society also serves as the chief and commander commanding all members and individuals within the society. It seems that in this comparison Farabi refers to narratives about Imamate (leadership), narratives in which Imamate has been introduced as the heart of the possible world and the pillar of the earth. Farabi has categorized members of the utopian society into five classes namely, most learned or virtuous (Afadhel), the tradition owners (dhu-al-sunnah), the destined ones (mughaddaroon), the materialists (maliyoon), the holy warriors (Mujahedoon).
