Legislative miracle is one of the forms and manifestations of the miracles of the Quran. It has important aspects which have often been ignored. The prohibition of usury (better known as riba) is an instance of the legislations of the Holy Quran. Now in view of the legislative miracle of the Quran and prohibition of the usury, the question that arises is: What are the delicacies and wisdom associated with the said prohibition and how does it reveal the miracle of the Quran in respect of legislation?
The present study seeks to explain that the legislative miracle of the Quran in respect of the prohibition of usury can be brought up and discussed as an independent topic. The miracle can be proved also, if the views and opinions of the scholars of the two branches of faith (Shia and Sunni) are studied comparatively. Hence, the legislative miracle of the Quran has been discussed with an analytical – descriptive approach. It is gathered from the research findings that the prohibition of usury is rationally acceptable and it is also consistent with man’s innate nature and that it can be modified in accordance with today’s science which as per the verse 157 of chapter 7 of the Quran (Those who follow the messenger, the unlettered Prophet…) was institutionalized in a short time on the tongue of an unschooled person.
